NJ Governor’s Pride Celebration

On June 17, 2024, at the New Jersey Pride Month celebration, Governor Phil Murphy signed Executive Order No. 361, officially establishing the Advisory Commission on Advancing LGBTQIA+ Youth Equity and Inclusion in Schools. As per the Office of the Governor, the commission has been created to help “address the many challenges that LGBTQIA+ youth face in schools – including harassment and bullying – and their greater risk for mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation”.

I had the honor of being present at the Pride Month event, and I am thankful to witness the work that is being done in my community to improve the lives and safety of LGBTQ+ youth, especially in schools. It was, as it always is, wonderful and empowering to be around dozens of queer and trans people who are passionate and motivated about making a positive change in our society for LGBTQ+ people.
